Just 40 minutes’ by car is San Gimignano, whose historic centre was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and where 72 tower-houses once rose in its heyday, 16 of which remain well preserved today. The historic centre is very lively, with shops and restaurants open every day. Vernaccia, the typical wine of the area, is worth tasting.
